NOURISH
Nourish (verb): to provide a healthy environment for growth, to care for and sustain, to feed and strengthen.
Nourish is an art event that provides the perfect opportunity for photographers and photo-based artists to showcase their work.
All styles are welcome, provided they exhibit a unique and creative approach to the theme.
ELIGIBILITY: Open to emerging artists from Hamilton, Toronto and the Niagara Region. We accept submissions from photographers and photo-based artists who use film, digital cameras, mobile phone cameras, scanners, or other photographic equipment. This includes traditional photographs and manipulated images using various techniques such as retouching, compositing and digital manipulation.
TIMELINE
Applications are accepted up to March 1, 2023.
Selected artists will be notified by email by March 15, 2023.
Exhibition Schedule
- February 2 Online Entry Open for Submissions
- March 5 Entry Deadline Midnight
- March 15 Notification will be sent out by email
- April 15 All works must be delivered framed and ready to hang
- Exhibition: May 4 Opening Reception 6 PM – 9 PM
- Doors Open: May 7, 2023 Open to the public
- Daily viewing Monday through Friday 10 – 4 PM and by appointment only.
- You may submit up to 6 original photo-based works created within the last three years. If any of your Artwork is part of a limited edition, please indicate how many pieces are in the edition.
FEE There is no fee to participate in the exhibition. The Cotton Factory does not take any commission from any artwork sales.
ENTRY INSTRUCTIONS
- Maximum 6 entries per artist
Image Requirements for application
- Image JPG: 1 MB, i.e. 72 dpi, between 900 and 2000 pixels on the longest side
- Maximum scale of submitted art pieces: 24 x 24
- Images must be framed 24 x 24
- The image in the frame does not need to be 24 x 24; it can be any size smaller as long as it makes sense with the overall composition.
- You may choose to print images on canvas. These images do not require framing. However, they must arrive ready to hang.
- Artwork must not be in any way an infringement of copyright.
- When you submit an image, you agree that the Cotton Factory may use your artwork image on its website or social media to promote and market the exhibition.
- Work must be ready to install using picture framing wire across the back of the frame and D hooks.
- Art Label Information Must Include Artist Name / Title / Medium / Size (h x w) / Price CDN $ – and should be visible and included on the back of each framed image when the work is dropped off.
- Artist Entrant Contact Details – your website, email, and social media are required.
- You are NOT required to sell the work; If the work is NFS, please indicate Not For Sale on the back of the frame along with the submitted label information.
JURYING will take place in mid-March 2023
NOTIFICATION OF RESULTS
Selected artists will be notified of the jurors’ decisions by email by March 15, 2023

PLEASE NOTE:
All artists are responsible for collecting money from their own sales. We suggest a digital payment such as E-transfer or Square.
**Sold Artwork can only be picked up at the end of the exhibition run.
**Artists will be responsible for their own transport, pick-up and delivery of works.
**Participating artists are encouraged to attend the opening exhibition reception and Doors Open event if their schedule permits.
