Are you a storyteller residing in Hamilton and the surrounding Region (including Six Nations, Branford, Caledonia, Grimsby)? CoWork at The Cotton Factory invites you to participate in a prestigious 6-month writers residency from June 1, 2024, to November 30, 2024. Please note, this residency is not residential.

We welcome applications from both emerging and established writers, whether you’re delving into fiction or nonfiction. Whether you’re a published author or just starting your journey, this residency is for you!
What’s In Store?
Imagine a sanctuary for creativity – that’s what awaits you at The Cotton Factory. You’ll have:
- 24-hour access to a dedicated workspace equipped with wifi, a personal desk, and endless coffee/tea to fuel your imagination.
- Free parking and access to various serene corners throughout The Cotton Factory for uninterrupted writing sessions.
- A warm “Welcome Brown Bag Luncheon” (possibly virtual due to COVID restrictions) where you’ll connect with fellow writers, artists, and local literary figures.
- Opportunities to attend workshops and events tailored to your interests.
Expectations:
Selected writers are expected to dedicate a minimum of 20 hours per week to their craft during the residency. Additionally, you’ll be asked to contribute a 500-word blog post about your residency experience for The Cotton Factory’s website, for which you’ll receive an honorarium.

Simply send an email to annette@coworkfactory.ca with the subject line “CF Writers Residency 2024” and include:
- A one-page letter of interest explaining why you’re interested in the residency, your current goals, and how you plan to balance your commitments.
- 3 to 5 examples of your work (PDF documents or URL links).
- Your resume and/or writer’s biography.
- If applicable, share your website link.
- Indicate the anticipated time you’ll spend working in the space.
Deadline: Midnight on May 1st, 2024. There’s no application fee, but we expect applicants to meet all outlined expectations.
Program Details:
The Writers-in-Residence Program aims to nurture emerging and mid-career writers in the Greater Hamilton and Toronto area. A diverse jury will review applications to ensure a fair selection process.
